I promised myself that the next car I bought would be a real electric production vehicle. Is this my next automobile? More importantly, can I afford it? Likely not, but that’s not the issue here. Photos and info after the bump.

The Volt is being used in Transformers 2, and after the lengthy (and slow) vehicle scene above, you see them unwrapping it like a gift and driving it in such a way that you get to see it from all angles. Hmm, very convenient. Now I’m sure there will be plenty of disagreement about this, but I think it looks pretty nice. The “full moonroof” top is bold and although the profile is essentially a chubby Accord Coupe, it could have been a lot worse — the mutant Insight, for example, or the terminally bland Prius. Of course, the proof of the pudding is in the driving. I don’t think we’ll get a review unit, but if I come into some money and buy one, I’ll let you know how it is.

The i770 is a BlackJack-esque QWERTY with quad-band GSM, G.P.S. and Wi-Fi along with EVDO. The u810 is pretty boring.

Designed by Hermes to look like a 1970s space landing craft, the H-Box is a mobile cinema is traveling all around Japan right now. Unfortunately I believe all that is being shown on the screen is artsy-fartsy films and not the more appropriate film: Blade Runner Blu-ray version. More info about the tour here.

GC had a stellar showing at Leipzig this year with a record number of visitors and countries reporting. Their next stop is Singapore for round 2 of GC Asia and CEO Wolfgang is looking at North America to continue the expansion of GC. But, will GC invade the United States of America in 2009 even though E3 is slated for another run? I hope so. Or maybe they’ll pick Canada. Heh.
“The concept is flexible and the network of the global games industry permits us to be active at different locations. After the Southeast Asian Games Convention, we’re now focusing on the North American market,” said Leipziger Messe boss Wolfgang Marzin.

Epson today expanded on their MovieMate line with the MovieMate 55. Glancing over the specs, I can’t state it’s a marked improvement over the last one, but I don’t care; I still want one. So the new one you’re looking at up there not only has a brighter light, but it is also a hundred bucks cheaper. Which makes this sweet combo projector even sweeter. Available in October.
Why look, we have some specs:
• Projecting a 16:9 widescreen 60-inch image from only six feet away or a 120-inch image from just 12 feet away
• Built-in progressive scan standard definition [480p] DVD/CD player
• Great sound quality using two built-in 8 watt 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS® speakers
• Compatible with Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PS3, and Apple iPod
• Integrates a new, brighter E-TORL lamp with up to 1,200 lumens to project light more efficiently, maximizing brightness and uniformity across the entire screen throughout the lamp’s life

Whoo! With just about 2 weeks left before we’ll all be roaming the Spore universe as questionably shaped creatures of our own design, I’m finally letting myself get excited about this game.
While we’ve known what Spore: Galactic Edition would include for some time now (Game/Art DVDs, 128 pg Art of Spore book, 100 pg manual, and a poster), no one has really seen much of the goods beyond the (incredibly unhelpful) official product shot. After the doors opened at NVISION08, an unboxed copy was left laying around at the Spore kiosk for all of a few minutes.
I grabbed the shot above and a few shots of the Art of Spore book, and then went to make a swift lap of the hall. By the time I’d made it back around for some more shots, it was already boxed back up.

I snuck onto the floor at NVISION08 a bit before the doors opened and, while most people were still setting up and not looking to talk, the folks from EA/Dice had just completed setting up the booth for Personal computer version of Mirror’s Edge. Having watched a number of demo videos and developer walk through for Mirror’s Edge, I had always wondered how well the controls would work mapped out across a keyboard.
Turns out, they work friggin’ perfectly. I’m primarily a console gamer, but had no problem with the transition. Most of the controls are standard FPS: WASD for Forward/Back/Strafing, shift for crouching, space for jumping. Q serves as a “Quickturn” button for leaping from wall-to-wall, which spins you around 180 degrees in an instant, while R triggers a short-burst of increased focus, temporarily slowing down the game environment.
More impressive than the independent controls are the way they all mesh together. As all actions are contextually based, going from running to sliding to jumping is pure buttery amazement. Within about 30 seconds of sitting down, I’d jumped a fence, slid under a set of pipes, and bounced my way off an angled surface up onto a higher area. The game really makes you feel awesome - especially when you string together a series of actions to reach one of the game’s not as obvious, off-the-beaten-path alternative routes.
If you keep your head up, the game is beautiful. When I looked over the side of a building, however, I was a bit disappointed. Perhaps it was just the area I chose to peek over, but the city seemed dead beneath me. Even within the games setting of a city under totalitarian rule, why was nobody wandering/working below? That stated - if your eyes are on the horizon, this is easily one of the most gorgeous games you’ll see any time soon.
Looks aren’t everything, though. Games that rely as heavily on mechanics as this one do have to be fine tuned to the point that it’s ridiculous. If the process of jumping out to grab one thing feels off or doesn’t work properly, the overall experience takes a hit. Such was the case with the demo; while every other object I interacted with worked like magic, there was one single pipe at the end of the demo that gave me a hell of a lot of trouble. I’d hit it just about dead on, yet my character wouldn’t grab it. After trying it 4 or 5 times, one of the EA guys stepped in - same problem. It worked eventually - but with each additional and unfairly unsuccessful attempt, I was a bit more disappointed. The demo was only a few minutes long, and has probably been looked over and polished more than any other section of the game - yet a nasty tiny hangup remained. Will they really be able to polish up the entire game world to the point that bugs never break immersion?
I hope so. If they can manage to stretch the experience of this demo (well, sans the nasty little pipe issue) out across an entire game, I don’t think I’ll be able to pull myself away from this one. If you’ll be at PAX in Seattle this weekend, be sure to stop by EA/DICE’s booth - they’ll have the PS3 version up and ready for the playing.

In November of last year, Rambus announced The Terabyte Bandwidth Initiative in which they stated they were going after, well, a terabyte of bandwidth. They’ve been making progress and recently showed off some working silicon.
Rambus is looking to provide the architecture that will be needed for tomorrow’s hungry graphics processors. They plan to accomplish the goal by using 32x Data Rate technology, differential memory and FlexLink, a scalable, point-to-point command/address link. They’re calling the speed boost an order of magnitude greater than current systems. Taking into account that the PS3 has about 50 GB/s, I’m not one to disagree.
If you want to know all the fine details about what all of this means, check it out, here. Either way, we’re still at least a few years off from seeing this show up.

About damn time. ABC is the last major network to make the HD jump but the network is using the Democratic National Convention to premier their nightly news in high definition. Both ABC World News, as well as Nightline, premiers tonight in 720p high definition. Following the DNC, and the Republican Convention after that, World News is going to return to the NY studio which they’ll, of course, continue the HD tradition. That date, September 8th, also marks the date that 20/20 and Primetime debuts in high definition. Enjoy!

All the specs were leaked earlier in the month and it was just a matter of time before the FCC divulged the rumored tablet from Lenovo. Well, the wait is no more as the X200T is now in the FCC database. The FCC filing shows that the X200T will come with UWB, so I wonder if those supposed specs from earlier are real? It shouldn’t be too long before Lenovo officially announces it.
Update: An in the wild shot after the jump.
